Eventide explores dusk in its intensified colors of the day’s last light and the dark depths creeping up into the night and delves into a deeper and darker palette, unveiling the beauty hidden in the mysterious shadows.
About the Images
I am by nature an experimenter. In this new series I wanted the color in my work to be as important as the drawing. It signals a return to my first love; painting. I’ve paired this with intense line work in these hybrid painting/drawings. The idea for this new work has been brewing for a few years ever since a family vacation in Maine and an evening spent digging mussels up from the mud at low tide. That foray in the eventide led to pieces concentrating on the intense action at the waters edge fading into mysterious darkness.
More Information
This series combines intensive drawing on the front portion of the plexiglass panels with reverse painting and carving on the back of the panels. Painting in reverse poses its own set of difficulties as its like painting blind and leaves absolutely no room for mistakes. The white ink on the front also is unforgiving. There is no ability to erase.
